Knowledge is great, London, Oxford

If I could specialise in any subject of my choice in the UK, then I would like to go for two of the major subjects I love to study and would want to have a specialisation and they are – English Language and Literature and History of Art at the Oxford University in London.

Why I would like to specialise in these subjects

I am not a graduate in English Language and Literature however; I had always been interested in reading the graduation-level books of my dad – who had graduated with a degree in English language. So then why didn’t I pursue English language for my graduation course – well I guess I lost my senses and applied for Home Science course and there also specialised in Clothing and Textile – though how I struggled through the college only I know and of course my poor teachers who were there for all the help I needed with the course. Anyway coming back to my choice of subject – I want to know everything about the language and the course here is one of the broadest in the UK, hence I would like to pursue this course from Oxford University one of the best universities in the world.

Second course I would like to specialise is in History of Art. While working as a trainee journalist in the features department of one of the leading national dailies in the Indian capital, I got a chance to interview one of the artists on the last day of his exhibition by fluke – our freelance art writer was not available that day and the seniors had pages to work on leaving me – the newly joined employee relatively free to go, visit the exhibition and get the coveted interview. Thankfully it was his first exhibition and mine first interview of an artist – hence both the novices had fun talking about art, creativity and how art and music complement each other, hence I would like to pursue the course here to know the history, and all that is to know and learn about art at Oxford University that possesses unsurpassed resources for the study of visual cultures on a global basis.

And with the hope that one day I would definitely be able to pursue my dream and fulfil it here’s wishing everyone happy studying and gaining knowledge, as Knowledge is indeed great. To know more about courses in the UK follow the link given here http://knowledgeisgreat.in/

Morning Story and Dilbert

We prowled through the second hand bookstore, the day after Christmas, just my husband, Louie, our daughters, Jenny and Helen, and me. This was a precious time for us, because we would be splitting up as a family, again, in just a couple of days.

It had been a tough eight months since my husband had retired from the Navy. As plotters and planners, we had manipulated the “military system,” while on active duty, as much as we could, trying to prevent a long, dreaded absence from one another. Now, here we were, retired, and we were eight months into our longest separation.

When my husband retired, we discovered that the only job available for him was in the city of Norfolk, Virginia. Our dream was to live out the rest of our lives in the mountains of southwestern Virginia, six and a half hours away. My health had gotten…

My Nokia Lumia Meet Experience and an APP idea

Ever wondered what you get when you bring three swashbuckling, awesomely cute and good looking hosts namely celebrity chef Vikas Khanna, Tech guru Rajiv Makhani and gaming king of India Vishal Gondal together on one stage – Indiblogger Nokia Lumia Meet 2014- session 2 – a meet that is little spicy, sprinkled with tongue in cheek humour and dollops of laughter! Yes, the fun began right from the moment we were seated and introductions began, as a masked man disguised as celebrity hosts stepped on to the stage when their name was announced creating a ripple of laughter amongst the audience. And when original hosts stepped onto the stage they surely upped the laughter quotient by their tongue in cheek humour and straight-face jokes that sent audience onto a roller coaster of laughter.

Initially hesitant about attending the meet, as it was a techie meet and I am technology challenged, I was glad I attended it. Rajiv Makhani started the programme with teasing Vikas Khanna, as Mr Khanna earlier had asked Makhani, quite innocently of course, as to what he was doing at a food meet after all it did talk about apps and that in a chef parlance translated to appetisers. And Vikas Khanna in response to Rajiv Makhani’s what is chef doing at a tech meet said, “I am a chef, a Punjabi and I am besharam, so here I am.” The light banter between these two hosts was indeed pleasing and kept all of us at the edge of our seats with laughter through the entire meet.

Of course, when one of the hosts is a chef App is bound to become Appetiser with ideas becoming spices that add flavour to the life of a consumer after all. Anyway in the midst of all these light hearted banter, and teasing Nokia MD Mr P Balaji talked about the apps for windows phone. He said htat currently there are more than 200,000 apps on windows phone and with the new show Your Wish is my App – starting on NDTV – we are hoping to see a steady increase in number of apps for windows phone.

Mr Balaji said that Nokia wants to be the brand that will fulfil all your app wish so get going and let those ideas pour in and we saw some really great ideas related to women security, civic issues, and some apps that were targeted in helping an individual to his/her maximum capacity.

After a mid way through the meet the hosts announced that all of us have a chance to be a part of the show if our app idea is selected so here is my app idea: Since I love writing about art my app idea is bound to be related to art. I would like to have an app that would let me know whether the tall claims of original paintings by celebrity artists made by gallery or art auctioning companies are true or are they just trying to pass the fake works as original.

And with this app idea I went in for dinner and some more talks with each of the hosts.
