Much of the 2013 was spent in wondering whether the god of cricket Sachin Tendulkar should retire gracefully or continue playing. With the final decision of retirement from the game Sachin Tendulkar with tear in his eyes bid farewell to his 24 years of glittering career in the world of cricket.
In 2013 the betting took another form with Indian Cricket League when some of the key players of IPL were caught on CCTV camera taking bribes and engaging in spot fixing during important matches. The 2013 Indian Premier League spot fixing and betting case arose when the Delhi Police arrested three cricketers, Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, on the charges of spot-fixing. The three represented the Rajasthan Royals in the 2013 Indian Premier League. In a separate case, Mumbai Police arrested Vindu Dara Singh and Gurunath Meiyappan for alleged betting and having links with bookies.

The year also some jolts and successes in the field of tennis. 2013 that began with a unique players’ revolt that shook Indian tennis in a controversy-marred beginning of the year. However when things settled down and the year progressed important players like Sania Mirza, Somdev Devvarman and Leander Paes brought cheers to the fans by their on-court successes.
